As children, we learn what love feels like long before we can question it. If love came with conditions, if you had to earn attention, keep the peace, or stay small to be accepted, your system quietly recorded that as normal.
Later in life, someone who is emotionally distant, inconsistent, or controlling can feel strangely familiar. Not because you want to be hurt, but because familiar feels safe to a nervous system that never learned otherwise.
